My teaching Philosophy
Through the courses I have taken at Virginia Commonwealth University and my experiences in the classroom, I have developed a personal teaching philosophy that will be implemented into my future classrooms. First and foremost, I believe that teaching is a continuing learning process that invariably holds room for enhancement and growth no matter the years of experience. Because our educational word is one that is constantly evolving, I believe that it is essential for teachers to be receptive and welcoming of new ideas, try them, and learn from them. Learning to teach does not stop after graduation, it a reflective profession that enables teachers to continually grow.
My personal philosophy revolves around creating a welcoming, enriching and stimulating learning environment that suit the diverse needs of all students. It is my goal as a teacher to provide an environment for students to learn and grow intellectually, emotionally, physically and socially. It is also my goal to provide all the resources necessary for students to reach their full potential. I believe in creating a classroom environment where students feel welcome and eager to learn. I believe every student that enters into a classroom should feel secure and comfortable. Students should feel comfortable to participate, ask questions and to speak their mind. My classroom will be an encouraging, supportive environment where students will learn without the fear of failure but instead will take pride in their own individual abilities. My classroom will be an environment where all diversities are both embraced and celebrated.
I believe classroom activities should be engaging and should motivate students to learn. I believe students learn best and are motivated when they have the opportunity to study topics that are relatable to one’s life and passions. Therefore, I will use differentiated instruction because I believe it is important to take account the individuality of all students. In a classroom of children, there will multiple learning preferences. In order to meet individual learning needs, I will develop lessons that incorporate auditory, kinesthetic, and visual techniques. Additionally, I believe the use of technology in a classroom is beneficial. By tailoring my teaching style, it will provide all students an opportunity to succeed and learn efficiently.
I believe it is important to establish a mutually respectful relationship with students. While I will uphold expectations from my students, they will be challenged to hold me to the same expectations. I believe it is important to connect with every student on a personal level. While it is important to connect with students it is also equally important to form relationships with fellow coworkers. Communication and teamwork among teachers will promote the sharing of ideas. The sharing of ideas, teamwork, and communication will ensure that all students are receiving the best education possible.
Parent involvement will be strongly encouraged in my classroom. Communication between home and school is essential for a student’s development. Parents are a valuable component of the their child’s educational process.
As I grow as a teacher, I know that my philosophy will constantly change and evolve. I will always remain open-minded and willing to grow in my beliefs and practices as a teacher.
